- 9 tablespoons sugar (double of the dal and rice quantity)
- 1 pinch saffron soaked in 1 tablespoon milk
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamon powder
- 1/2 litre full fat milk
- as required Pistachio to garnish (optional)

- Soak rice and dal in separate bowl for 1 hour, soak the saffron in 1 tablespoon milk, keep ready all the ingredients
- Discard the water from dal and rice cook it in pressure cooker till it is fully cooked
- Make paste of the cooked dal and rice in mixer jar
- Put the milk in a pan and add the paste when the milk is lukewarm and mix well so that there is no lumps
- Start boiling it and stir it continuously, so that no lumps form.
- After it little thickens add sugar, saffron milk and cardamon powder, keep stirring
- When it is reduced to almost half switch off the flame, and pour it into the serving bowl and let it cool for some time and refrigerate for 2 hours, serve chill after garnishing with chopped pistachio.
